Mac 1s stronger pump arm/linkage was designed to strengthen the weak points of the factory design. More stress on the linkage and even the valve. If the pump tube pressure is capable of only 700 psi, then no extra amount of pumping will increase the pressure in the valve above 700 psi, only a tighter 'setting' of the pump rod adjustment. That pressure is dependant on the adjustment of the pump rod/piston and the gun at that setting will only attain that pressure when the gun is pumped even 100 times(tape removed). Then, one pump of the forearm will give a certain pressure. Basically, imagine the small hole down the pump tube being closed off say, with a piece of tape(where air enters the main valve). Many pump guns like the new non adjustable models are not adjusted for 'perfection' as it takes extra time to do it (assembly and reassembly a few times of pump arm and rod). You want some 'snap' to occur as the forearm comes to rest position, but not too much as the pump rod is actually pushing on the valve head in the main tube. As far as power/# of pumps, a big factor depends on the adjustment of the pump piston in relation to the valve's physical location. I like the synthetic 'hycar' or synthetic replacement(viton?) as they actually hold better for me.
